The voyage offers 8 overnight port stays - in Panama City (Port Fuerte Amador), Papeete (Tahiti), Australia (Sydney NSW, Hobart Tasmania, Adelaide, Fremantle), Cape Town (South Africa), Amsterdam (Holland). However, due to the Coronavirus crisis, HAL's Zaandam ship was paused for 2+ years (March 2020 thru May 2022). "Grand World Voyage 2022" (129-day roundtrip from Fort Lauderdale/Jan 3-May 12) was canceled. Operations restarted on May 12, 2022 (with Canada and New England voyages between Boston and Montreal), followed by 14-day Caribbean roundtrips (from Fort Lauderdale).

All Suites (including Vista/balcony cabins) feature floor-ceiling sliding doors opening to a private veranda with lounge furniture (table, chairs, sun loungers). The master bedroom is furnished with a king-size bed with a plush mattress topper, vanity area and flat-screen TV. The master bath impresses with a large whirlpool bath, separate shower and double vanity. Angie and I had the pleasure of staying in a spacious ocean-view room during our Holland America Zaandam cruise. We were pleasantly surprised by the abundance of storage options, including three closets and ample drawer space. Additionally, the room featured a cozy couch and movable table, which provided the perfect setting for enjoying our meals, catching up on work, or simply relaxing while watching TV.
We recommend packing an essential carry-on with items you may need before your luggage arrives, such as a swimsuit, medicine, passport, phone charger, and all necessary cruise documents. Before embarking on your Canada cruise, it’s advisable to exchange some US dollars for Canadian dollars to obtain the best exchange rate. Throughout the voyage, a delightful array of beef and mushroom dishes dominated the Canada and New England itinerary, a culinary experience that resonated with my taste buds. The dishes were skillfully complemented by rich sauces and perfectly cooked vegetables, ensuring a delightful harmony of flavors. Additionally, the Zaandam offers an enticing array of onboard duty-free shops and the opportunity to enjoy both recent release movies in the theatre or from the comfort of your own stateroom.
Service was unremarkable, but crew were always friendly and would greet us in the hallways. Turn-down chocolates and towel animals remain a nightly ritual to look forward to. The ultimate steakhouse at sea, with an exceptional menu of Prime steaks, seafood and wine.
